How to get there
The best time to travel to Phu Quoc is during the dry season (November to March) when the sky is always sunny, clear and blue.
Vietnam Airlines (www.vietnamairlines.com) currently offers daily service to Phu Quoc from Ho Chi Minh City (formerly called "Saigon"). There are 5 flights a day and it takes approximately 50 minutes to get to Phu Quoc round trip full fare is 1,250,000 VND (approx. USD 78 as of January 11, 2008). You can also take a 6-hour bus trip from Ho Chi Minh City to Rach Gia then board a 2.5 hour high speed boat to Phu Quoc. There are daily flights between Rach Gia and Phu Quoc as well. In addition to the current airport, Dương Đông Airport, a new international airport will be built in Duong To commune, the target completion date is 2010. The new airport will cover 800 hectares and will be able to accommodate large commercial jet aircraft such as the Boeing 767 and Airbus A320 and A321. It is anticipated that the new airport will welcome 2.5 million passengers annually.
As a result of the recent preferential policies (See Preferential Policies), foreign tourists and Vietnamese nationals holding foreign passports are no longer required to obtain a visa if they spend less than 15 days on Phu Quoc Island. Foreign visitors who enter Vietnam through an international airport in Vietnam while en route to Phu Quoc are also exempt from visa application. Please note, however, that the law stipulates that your passport must still be valid for at least 45 days in order to qualify for the exemption.
